The Caribbean Taxonomic Network of
BioNET-INTERNATIONAL

What is CARINET?

CARINET is the taxonomic capacity building network of the Caribbean involved in biosystematics of arthropods, nematodes, microorganisms, non-vascular and vascular plants.

CARINET has been mandated by the Standing Committee of CARICOM Ministers of Agriculture to provide adequate and reliable biosystematic services to the Caribbean sub-region in support of sustainable agricultural development, wise use of the environment and conservation of genetic resources.

CARINET is the first Locally Organized and Operated Partnership (LOOP) of BioNET-INTERNATIONAL established in December, 1993. As a LOOP, it is inter-linked with other sub-regional Technical Coordinating Networks (TCNs) of this global network, and supported by the BioNET Technical Secretariat and the consortia of expert centres known as BIOCON.
