CARINET
is the taxonomic capacity building network of the Caribbean involved
in
biosystematics of arthropods, nematodes, microorganisms, non-vascular
and vascular plants.
CARINET has been mandated
by the Standing Committee of CARICOM
Ministers of Agriculture to provide adequate and reliable biosystematic
services to the Caribbean sub-region in support of sustainable agricultural
development, wise use of the environment and conservation of genetic resources.
CARINET is the first
Locally Organized and Operated Partnership (LOOP)
of BioNET-INTERNATIONAL established in December, 1993. As a LOOP,
it is inter-linked with other sub-regional Technical Coordinating
Networks (TCNs)
of this global network, and supported by the BioNET Technical Secretariat
and the consortia of expert centres known as BIOCON.
